This is the shocking moment a housewife triggered an explosion by pouring water on a burning pan.

The woman doused the blazing, oil-filled wok with water, causing flames to shoot 10ft (3m) through the air in Guangdong, China, on November 13.

CCTV footage shows the mother tossing the pan into the yard after the explosion.

This left her children motionless and in shock, with one of them heard crying from the fire incident.

The fire was eventually extinguished by a man using a damp mop.

No one reportedly sustained any injuries from the incident.

People are advised against pouring water on a pan of burning oil, as it can lead to a dangerous and explosive reaction.

When water is added to the hot oil, it rapidly expands, creating high pressure that forces the burning oil to spill out of the pan and into the air. This can cause the fire to spread and pose a serious risk to anyone nearby.
