On November 29 in Xi'an, Shaanxi, a mischievous child discovered the magnifying effect of a lens and decided to play a prank on his father. While his father was distracted playing on his phone, the child used a magnifying glass under the sunlight to focus a beam onto his dad's slippers. The intense sunlight and focused heat caused the slippers to smolder, emit smoke, and give off a pungent burnt smell.

At first, the father didn’t realize the source of the burning. Smelling the smoke, he initially suspected a faulty charger. It wasn’t until he felt a stinging, burning sensation that he realized the prank was caused by his son and the magnifying glass.

The father, though amused and exasperated, later educated the child, cautioning him against playing with potentially dangerous items like fire indoors.
