This is the terrifying moment a power bank exploded inside an aeroplane cabin in China.

The device burst into flames and filled the Sichuan Airlines jet cabin with smoke on flight 3U8925 from Chengdu City to Xiamen City on November 30.

Footage shows mask-wearing passengers rising from their seats to evacuate the plane after it made an emergency landing at the Guilin Liangjiang International Airport in Guangxi province at 7:35 pm.

The Airbus A320 later resumed after inspections and arrived at the Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport at 9:32 pm.

In August 2015, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) issued a memorandum to re-emphasise the Regulations of Civil Aviation regarding passengers carrying 'power banks' on flights due to frequent fire-related incidents from the devices.

Passengers and crew are prohibited from carrying power banks with a rated energy of more than 160Wh.

The consumer product safety office advises individuals to keep the power bank in a cool and dry place away from heat sources, moisture, and dust. Avoid leaving the power bank in places with high temperatures, such as cars parked under the sun.
