With over 30 visits to China, seasoned tour leader Tom Lops shared captivating stories and practical tips with a Dutch audience during an event on Friday at The Hague's China Cultural Center.

In 2008, Lops embarked on his first trip to China, visiting major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, and Guangzhou.

"I went to China. It was really a roller coaster of new impressions. The people, the country, the things I saw. And I was surprised by so many new things that I wanted to know more about it. And later on, in the further travels, I explored other parts of China. Yeah, in China, there are a lot of beautiful places."

Lops highlighted the convenience of China's digital payment systems and bike-sharing services, which have made it easier for foreign tourists to get around both urban and rural areas.

He also praised China's extension of its visa policy, which allows tourists to stay for up to 30 days.

"China has evolved [to become] more friendly for tourists from abroad with the new visa regulations, the apps which are available nowadays, to communicate with people, to pay in the shops and to travel with urban buses and metros. I think it is very convenient to travel in China to rent a bike. You can pick it up everywhere. You can place it almost everywhere. It makes it very easy nowadays."

Lops takes pride in his role as a cultural bridge.

"I really like to be an intermediary between the Dutch people and the Chinese people. I've already made a lot of friends."
