Rescue volunteers evacuted residents from a flooded town as heavy rains lashed the Philippines on Sunday.

Firefighters and local disaster officers rescued stranded villagers as the deluge submerged the seaside town of Vinzons in Camarines Norte province on December 1.

They rode speedboats across the deep floodwaters, and transported locals from their coastal homes to relief shelters as intense rains pounded the province.

The local government said there were no immediate reports of 'untoward incidents' caused by the flash floods.

Vinzons town is located in the country's Bicol region which is still reeling from consecutive cyclones in November.

Philippine weather agency PAGASA said the heavy rain was caused by a shear line - the area where cold air from the northeast monsoon meats warm winds from the Pacific Ocean - where thunderstorms often form.

The floods come several weeks after the Philippines was battered by six storms within a month.

The country experiences frequent and intense storms especially during the typhoon season from June to November, due to its location in the Pacific typhoon belt. These storms often bring heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding that cause significant damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and communities.
