Wheelchair user overcomes fears with beautiful ballroom dancing performance
A wheelchair user continues to inspire and overcome her fears with a beautiful ballroom dancing performance.
Vahen King from Alberta, Canada developed transverse myelitis in 1999, when she was 23-years-old, which inflamed her spinal cord causing her unable to walk.
But the strong-willed Vahen said she made it her mission to go farther, becoming a beauty queen, fashion designer, and author and participating in events like dance competitions.
Footage shows Vahen taking over the dance floor in her wheelchair with a partner to the music of Celine Dion's Power of Love.
She said: 'In this video, I take you behind the scenes of my journey to the Litco Law Dancing with the Easter Seals Stars Gala, where I danced alongside my incredibly talented and dashingly handsome professional partner Rory Pidgeon with The Arthur Murray Dance Studio Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.'
Vahen added that they only had ten practice sessions but took home the Judges' Choice Award.
The music shifted from romantic to groovy, Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
The crowd cheered for them and went to hear the judges' comments.
First Miss Wheelchair Canada Vahen said: 'Whether you have a disability or not, we all face obstacles. I believe our biggest limitations are the ones we put on ourselves. Through every opportunity, including dancing, I am committed to proving that resilience, courage, and hope can transform lives.'
