Dramatic footage shows rescue teams searching for seven residents trapped in a Cyclone Fengal-triggered landslide on December 2.

Authorities reported that missing individuals, including five children, are feared buried after a massive boulder crashed into homes on the lower slopes of Annamalaiyar Hill on Sunday.

A rescue group, members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and District Collector Bhaskar Pandian arrived with sniffer dogs to conduct search and rescue operations.

Initial efforts were delayed due to heavy rain but resumed early Monday.

The cyclone caused significant disruption in the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai. Initially classified as a deep depression, it intensified into a cyclonic storm before crossing the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coastline near Mahabalipuram, with wind speeds reaching 80 km/h.

Schools and colleges were closed as a precaution, and disruptions included delayed flights, power outages, and transportation challenges.

Authorities said Fengal has killed at least 20 people in India and Sri Lanka. Puducherry experienced its heaviest 24-hour rainfall in 30 years, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In Sri Lanka, the latest data from the Disaster Management Centre indicates that the heavy rain affected 138,944 families in the country.
