Footage captures a thick plume of smoke billowing as a wildfire races toward residential areas in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile.

Authorities report that the flames affected approximately 200 hectares in the Huertos Familiares area of Tiltil, Chacabuco Province, on November 30.

Fifteen fire trucks from the Tiltil Fire Department are battling the blaze, along with 19 units from various brigades across the Santiago Metropolitan Region and two from Valparaiso.

The National Emergency Office (Senapred) has issued a Red Alert for the region as the fire intensifies. The Santiago Fire Department has also deployed volunteers and resources from eight companies to assist in the operation.

Officials have not provided an estimated containment date for the blaze.

The incident broke out on Saturday afternoon and has reportedly injured three people.

Mayor Luis Valenzuela of Tiltil raised concerns that the fire could have been deliberately set, given its location.
