Hardy horses hit with hail on plateau in China
Horses out in the open were battered by small icy rocks during a severe hailstorm in Ganzi, Sichuan.
Footage shows the hoofed animals fleeing to find shelter as the intense storm pelted the area on October 6.
Mr Ma said: 'I feel bad for the horses because they have no place to shelter. Their corrals don't have any roofs.'
Hailstones form when raindrops are carried upward into the atmosphere by strong updrafts in thunderstorms, where they freeze. Severe hailstorms can sometimes be accompanied by other extreme weather events, such as tornadoes and cyclones.
The largest hailstone ever recorded weighed 2.25 lbs (1 kg) and fell in Gopalganj, Bangladesh, on April 14, 1986.
