Details: Cyclone Fengal, which originated in the Bay of Bengal, made landfall near Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu on 30th November 2024. The cyclone brought extreme rainfall of 20 to 50 cm across several regions in North Tamil Nadu within 24 hours, leading to significant flooding. One of the major rivers, the South Pennar River, has seen its heaviest flow since 1972, with a discharge rate of two lakh cubic feet of water per second. These scenes from Uthangarai, located on the banks of Bambaru, a tributary of the South Pennar River, show cars being swept away by the forceful floodwaters, illustrating the severity of the disaster.
