Jammu and Kashmir - December 03, 2024 Uber Shikaras are seen tied to a jetty on Dal Lake after Uber launched Kashmir's first water transport service, offering shikara bookings through its app in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. An official said each Uber Shikara ride can be booked for a period of one hour, allowing up to 4 passengers. Uber Shikara rides can be booked 12 hours prior and up to 15 days in advance. Shikara is a small boat bedecked with colourful upholstery. These boats shot to fame after the Bollywood movies in the 1970s, like Shami Kapoor’s ‘Kashmir ki Kali’ and Shashi Kapoor’s ‘Jab Jab Phool Khile’ and Shami Kapoor’s ‘Kashmir ki Kali’ extensively shot these movies on shikaras, besides the iconic songs. Thereafter, it became a dream ride for honeymooners during their stay in Kashmir.
