Protesters stormed the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.

Footage shows the demonstrators disrupting the iconic event near the Hilton Midtown on November 28. The Ronald McDonald balloon can be seen coming to a halt as protesters quickly took over the route, holding flags and signs.

Paradegoer Mallory Agner said: 'People started hopping the barriers and running into the street.'

Police had to step in to restore order.

Authorities said the protesters aimed to draw attention to the human cost of Israel's ongoing conflict in Gaza, where at least 44,330 Palestinians have been reportedly killed.

McDonald's, the fast-food chain whose balloon was blocked by the activists, has been the target of an ongoing boycott after a subsidiary in Israel allegedly announced free meals for Israeli military personnel following the start of the conflict.

Despite the disruption, the parade continued, with thousands of spectators determined to enjoy the annual tradition.

Macy's, the iconic department store, has hosted the Thanksgiving Day Parade since 1924, making it a cherished event in New York City.
