This is the heartwarming moment locals rescued cows stranded in a canal in China.

Worried villagers and local police teamed up to save dozens of cattle swept away by rapid waters in Kurle, Xinjiang.

Cows have the ability to swim. However, due to the steep slope of the canal, they were unable to climb up, prompting rescuers to retrieve them.

Footage shows men attaching ropes to the animals and hauling them back to the bank one at a time.

The herders said 50 cattle had gone missing, carried downstream into the Kuta Gan Canal.

Rescuer An Ge can be heard in the video saying: 'Up onshore, cattle! Don't be afraid of the difficulties!'

The animals did not sustain any injuries from the incident.
