This is the moment a schoolgirl was saved from falling through the ice by her puffer jacket.

Footage shows two girls walking onto the frozen lake and immediately starting to scare each other in Vladivostok, eastern Russia, on November 30.

After one jumps onto the fragile-looking ice, the other leaps higher and lands so heavily that she breaks through, plunging into the water.

Authorities said that if she had gone completely under, she could have been swept away and drowned beneath the ice.

But, amazingly, she was saved when her heavily quilted jacket got jammed in the hole, allowing her to scramble out.

As the footage ends, the pair is seen shuffling back to the bank.

Local safety officials have warned other youngsters not to play on the ice.
