China - December 04, 2024 Advanced Hualong-1 reactor at east China nuclear power plant connected to grid (Voice_over) The first of six nuclear reactors at the CNNC nuclear power plant in east China's Zhangzhou City has been connected to the State Grid, officials from China National Nuclear Corporation say. The first Hualong-1 reactor at the nuclear power plant is undergoing additional tests to verify its performance. The first reactor is part of a larger plan to build five additional million-kilowatt-grade nuclear power units, some of which are already under construction. (Sound_bite) Li Feng, General manager, CNNC Zhangzhou Energy: "The No. 2 Unit is currently in the debugging stage and will be connected to the national power grid for power generation next year. Units No. 3 and 4, planned for the second phase of the project, have seen their construction started so far in 2024." (Voice_over) China currently has more than 58 gigawatts of nuclear power units in operation, and by 2025, the aim is to bring that number to 70 gigawatts. [Restriction: No access Chinese mainland]
