"I'm now here at the venue of COP16 (16th Conference of the Parties) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). COP16 (is) ushering in a new chapter amid global efforts to restore land and boost drought resilience."

COP16 will also conduct a midterm review of the convention's 2018 to 2030 strategic framework. 
   
More than 10,000 people participated in this year's conference, whose primary goals include: accelerating restoration of degraded land by 2030 and beyond, boosting resilience to intensifying droughts and sand and dust storms, restoring soil health, and scaling up nature-positive food production, among others.

Over the years, the UNCCD has successfully raised the global awareness and mobilized the global commitments to combat desertification, land degradation and drought. The convention also provides essential guidance, capacity building and resource mobilization to address these issues.
