"The deported migrants include 68 women and a number of children. The department intends to deport more migrants in the future."

Since the fall of late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the ensuing insecurity and chaos in Libya have prompted many migrants, primarily from Africa, to attempt to cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach European shores.

So far this year, a total of 20,839 migrants have been intercepted at sea and returned to Libya, while 600 died and 898 others went missing off the Libyan coast, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
