An Australian husband sparked chaos as he smashed cars and set his house on fire during a naked rampage in Thailand.

The Aussie ran without clothes into the street before using a drain grate to whack a Ford Everest parked in the upmarket housing estate in Pattaya on December 4 morning.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Nattakon Chanlod, Deputy Superintendent of Investigation of the Nong Prue district station, said officers received a report from the man's terrified neighbours at 8:30 am local time. They arrived and found the damaged SUV and a Honda Click motorcycle in front of the luxury home, with the crazed Aussie nearby.

The police officer said: 'The Australian man was acting crazy, yelling and cursing at us the whole time. He threatened us saying 'if you come near me, I'll set my house on fire'. We tried for 10 minutes to talk to him but he suddenly ran into the house and smashed things. Not long after, there was a blaze and smoke billowing out of the home.'

Footage shows firefighters extinguishing the flames as smoke drifted out into the yard. Police stormed the burning house and tackled the Australian to the ground. He was said to have resisted arrest before being subdued and hauled into a police truck. He was taken to the Bang Lamung Hospital for cuts and burns.

Photos of the scene show upturned furniture and appliances, with some of the walls scorched from the flames.

Police Colonel Tawee Kudtalang, Superintendent of the local station, said: 'The Aussie has been sent to the hospital for a check-up. The result has not been released, so we can't confirm anything.

'For prosecution, technically we can prosecute him because it happened in the housing estate. The destroyed house is his property, his house, and it's better not to rub it in because he is already facing personal troubles.'

Police Lieutenant Ong-art Thumsut, Deputy Inspector (Investigation), Nongprue Police Station said: 'The identity of the man was confirmed. His relatives said that he had just moved here four to five months ago.

'Before the incident, he was hallucinating and said that someone had hacked his computer. On the day of the incident, there were many people. The police only talked to his relatives because the foreigner could not speak clearly. He had been living with his Thai girlfriend at home here the whole time. But after the incident, his mother wants to send him back to Australia. As for the legal case, we have to wait and see if his mother will report him because he mostly burned and destroyed his own property and the things in his mother's room.'

The Aussie's neighbour Am, 56, who reported his rampage to the police said he had been living at the rented home with his Thai wife and two children. She claimed he often threw tantrums and had frequent rows with his spouse.

She added: 'In the past two or three days, he had been acting strangely and making loud noises. I didn't think much of it until this morning, when I heard him running amok and destroying things.'

A village security guard said the Australian's wife had fled the house to hide at the guard post during the rampage.

Police said they were co-ordinating with his family in Australia before taking legal action.
