Chinese tourist hotspot sparks controversy with fake curtain waterfall
Recently, in Urumqi, Xinjiang, the Tianshan Small Canyon Scenic Area introduced a "curtain waterfall," sparking controversy. This "waterfall" was actually a photo of a waterfall printed on a curtain, with artificial water flow added above it to create the illusion of a man-made waterfall. However, this creative idea failed to win over visitors and instead faced criticism and ridicule for its obvious artificiality.
Some visitors commented, "A tourist attraction like this makes AI look weak," and "It’s like the waterfall literally stepped out of a painting."
In response to the visitors' complaints and criticism, staff from Urumqi’s Culture and Tourism Bureau stated they had received related complaints earlier and had recommended that the scenic area management remove the installation. As of now, the "curtain waterfall" has been dismantled, and the area has been converted into a ski field for the winter season.
