Speeding taxi crashes and flips over killing toddler inside in Vietnam
This is the shocking moment a speeding taxi crashed and flipped over killing a toddler inside in Vietnam.
CCTV footage shows the cab roaring across a narrow bridge before hitting a fence along a rural road in Da Lat City in Lam Dong province, on November 28. The vehicle cartwheeled across the pavement and landed on its roof, narrowly missing two oncoming motorcyclists.
Shocked onlookers at a nearby cafe ran over to rescue the tourist family who had travelled from Hanoi, and their driver inside. They shattered the windows and pulled out the trapped victims, who were rushed to the Lam Dong General Hospital.
Local media reported that a one-year-old girl died on the way to the hospital. Her mother suffered serious injuries, while the taxi driver, 44, and the father had minor wounds.
The grieving father, named in local reports only as 'Mr. S', said: 'After drinking and sightseeing at a cafe in Ta Nung commune, we rented a taxi to move elsewhere. However, I noticed the car running at a very fast speed. Before I knew it, we had hit the side of the road and were turning in the air.
'I don't know what happened after. When I woke up my daughter was no more, and my wife was seriously injured, lying in a coma. I didn't expect that this trip would bring so much pain to my family.'
Da Lat police said they were investigating the cause of the crash.
Like most Southeast Asian countries, road safety is a challenge in Vietnam due to the high traffic density and inconsistent adherence to traffic laws. While efforts have been made to improve traffic law enforcement, road accidents remain a problem especially in congested urban areas.
