Hundreds of ducks waddled across a road and held up traffic in the Philippines.

The large flock of Pateros native breed were crossing between rice fields, causing delay among passing drivers in Nueva Ecija province on November 29.

Footage shows the army of birds shuffling across concrete road. A long queue of motorcycles, trucks and cars stopped on either lanes, waiting for the Pateros flock to reach the paddy fields safely.

One of the driver Tolits Bernardino said the birds did not have their owner near but knew exactly where to go.

He said: 'They just follow the duck in front and soon all of them were back in the fields eating.'

Farmers in Asia and other parts of the world launch ducks into rice fields as a cost-effective pest management strategy. By letting ducks eat insects, snails, and weeds, they can reduce the need for chemical pesticides and herbicides.

As ducks forage, they also contribute to the soil by leaving behind manure, which enriches the soil and provides natural fertilizer for the rice plants.
