A rare rainbow-coloured cloud amazed residents in Indonesia.

Footage shows the vibrant weather phenomenon in neon red, blue, green, yellow, and violet behind dark clouds in the sky in Tidore city, North Maluku province, on December 4.

Cloud iridescence, sometimes called 'rainbow clouds' or 'unicorn clouds,' occurs through diffraction, when sunlight is scattered by small, uniform water or ice droplets in the sky.

The phenomenon is most commonly seen in thin clouds or semi-transparent clouds.
