This is the stunning moment the Rockefeller Centre Christmas tree was illuminated in New York.

Footage shows the iconic holiday decoration glowing with more than 50,000 multi-coloured LED lights, on December 4, marking the start of the holiday season in the city.

As celebrations began, the New York City Police Department assured the public of their commitment to safety during the yuletide season.

The Rockefeller Centre Christmas tree is lit daily from 5 am to midnight. On Christmas Eve, the tree will stay aglow for 24 hours, while on New Year's Eve, it will be illuminated from 5 am to 9 pm.

It will be on display to the public until mid-January 2025.
