Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held a trilateral meeting on Friday in Baghdad with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh.
A joint statement issued after the meeting said that the three ministers shared concerns about the impact of the serious situation in Syria on the three countries, noting its threat to the security of their peoples and the entire region.
The statement condemned all forms of terrorism, as well as the ongoing Israeli attacks on Syria, Gaza, and Lebanon.
It also emphasized respect for Syria's sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.
In a joint press conference after the meeting, Hussein said that Syria's security is linked to the security of the region, stressing, "We will call for an urgent meeting of the Arab League at the ministerial level and we will use all diplomatic means to reach a calm in the Syrian situation."
For his part, Araghchi told the press conference that the international community must support the region's efforts against terrorism, especially in Syria.
Sabbagh said that terrorists are violating the resolutions of the United Nations and the UN Security Council, and the Syrian army is doing its duty to repel the terrorist attacks.
