STORYLINE:
The "Glory of Ancient Persia: Treasures from Iran" opened Friday in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The exhibition held in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Museum divides the long history and splendid civilization of ancient Iran into three sections: "Plateau Dawn," "Glorious Era" and "Art of Faith."
A total of 216 cultural relics representing the ancient Persian civilization are on display, which range from gold and silver jewelry to glassware and stone sculptures.
Many of them contain Chinese elements, showing the mutual integration of the ancient Persian and Chinese civilizations.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): LIU HANCHUAN, Visitor
"This exhibition has a unique Iranian cultural style which is different from the common exhibitions in China. The exhibition is presented in historical order, and through this I can see the gradual influence and intermingling of Eastern and Western cultures in the process of historical development."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Persian): JEBRAEL NOKANDEH, Director of the National Museum of Iran
"Our aim in organizing this exhibition is to strengthen the friendly relations between Iran and China. Visitors to the exhibition can learn about the common cultural heritage that exists between the two countries and about the friendship between their peoples. Museum exhibitions always serve such a purpose and so does this exhibition."
The exhibition is free and open to the public until March 2025.
