A man fell over the side of his balcony while on holiday and fell 15 metres onto concrete - and SURVIVED.

Nicholas Jones, 35, popped out to sit on his balcony after having a few drinks while on holiday in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

But the floor was wet and slippery from rain and Nicholas ended up slipping and falling over the edge - dropping 15 metres.

The English teacher - who is living in Shanghai, China - remained conscious after landing on the concrete four storeys below.

He was rushed to hospital and doctors were astounded that he had not only survived the fall - but had no internal or head injuries.

But he broke several bones and needed surgeries to insert metal into his leg, elbow and foot.

A month on, Nicholas is having daily physio to help him walk again - but considers himself "lucky to be alive"."

Nicholas, who is originally from Prestwich, Greater Manchester, said: "I went out onto the balcony to smoke after a few drinks."

"It was raining and I guess I slipped - I just remember waking up on the ground."

"I had no idea what had happened at first - I had no idea where I was, I thought a natural disaster had occurred."

"I couldn't move - when the ambulance arrived I was coming to my senses and realised I had fallen four storeys."

"The doctors said I must have a guardian angel because I had no head injuries or internal bleeding."

Nick flew solo from his home in China to Cambodia for a long weekend on November 1.

After having a few drinks on the evening of November 2, he popped onto his balcony for a cigarette before heading to bed.

But he went to sit down and slipped on the wet balcony, tumbling over the edge - and landing on the concrete some 15 metres below.

He remained conscious but was in shock and disorientated - forgetting where he was, or what had happened.

He said: "I thought it was a natural disaster at first, then I started thinking I was back home in China."

"Then I thought I must have had a stroke - all I knew was I couldn't move my leg or arm."

"As I started to get more of my senses I started panicking and screaming and a man nearby helped me."

"He told me I hit two air con units on the way down, and those probably broke my fall which was why I lived." "

Nick was rushed to Intercare Hospital and was found to have three broken toes on his left foot, a fractured right foot, a fractured left femur, and a fractured right elbow.

Over the days that followed he had two surgeries to insert pins into his upper leg, arm and one of his feet.

His husband, Rahul Malhotra, 37, who had been back in his homeland of India to celebrate Diwali, dropped everything to fly to Cambodia to support Nicholas.

Nicholas said: "They were worried with the surgeries that the chance of infection was really high."

"They knew they would have to do a blood transfusion and said the chances of survival were balanced - it was 50/50 whether I'd live."

"It was a pretty terrible time and I was in a lot of pain, as well as it being surreal and scary."

"I was really relieved when Rahul came to support me and keep me positive."

Two weeks after the surgeries, physiotherapists came to start getting Nicholas walking again - despite two recently broken feet.

While he's still on a cocktail of strong painkillers, doctors say he is recovering well.

He'll be on the hunt for a new job once he returns to his home in China.

Reflecting on his journey, Nick said: "Rahul said he'll never let me travel alone again!"

"When you go through something so traumatic, it does make you wake up and think about how precious your life is."

"A doctor told me I must have had higher chances of winning the lottery than surviving the fall from the height I did."

"I consider myself lucky to be alive."
