STORYLINE:
The fifth ice collecting festival kicked off on December 7 on the frozen Songhua River. It marks the beginning of collecting ice this year. Most ice blocks will be transformed into the construction of spectacular sculptures for the Harbin Ice-Snow World.
After the ceremony, citizens and tourists can taste the hot dumplings and fresh river fishes. There are also a lot of activities here like the ice-snow world market.
This year's ice collecting festival is themed "Collecting first ice, Celebrating Asian Winter Games".
The Asian Winter Games will be held in Harbin in February 2025.
