Thousands of birds gathered on electricity cables on roadside at dusk in eerie scenes in the Philippines.

Footage shows the flock perching along the wires at a junction in Antique province on December 3.

Some of them flew around, baffling motorists and pedestrians passing through the area.

Onlooker Gerry Salibio said the birds usually come at night, but that was the first time they had gathered in such large numbers.

He said: 'Some of them were on the stop light. I do not know where they came from.'

The birds left droppings on the road, pavement, and even passing vehicles on the road.

December is part of the migratory season for birds in the Philippines, as many species escape the cold northern climates.
