Bird Strike Incident Captured at Xiamen Airport as Plane Lands Safely
At 12:43 PM on December 5, a China International Airlines (Air China) flight CA4539 encountered a dramatic bird strike while landing at Xiamen Gaoqi Airport. A flock of birds suddenly flew from the side, colliding with the plane during its high-speed descent. The moment was accidentally captured on video by aviation enthusiast Liu Wenjie, showing birds being scattered mid-air and visible bloodstains left on the aircraft's nose.
Airport officials confirmed that the plane landed safely and underwent thorough inspection, revealing minor damage that did not compromise its safety. The flight operated without delays or cancellations, and subsequent operations proceeded as scheduled.
Aviation experts highlight that bird strikes remain a significant challenge to flight safety, with their severity depending on factors such as bird size, type, and the speed of impact. In this case, the collision with the nose side of the aircraft caused damage but did not affect the plane's performance.
Airports and airlines continuously implement measures to mitigate bird strike risks, especially in regions with abundant wildlife activity. These include bird deterrence systems and regular inspections of potential attractants around airport zones.
