An uprooted tree crushed two cars during a storm in Indonesia.

Footage shows the vehicles trapped under the fallen tree in Jalan Terusan Dieng, Sukun District, Malang City, East Java, on December 9.

Reports say the vehicles were stuck at a red light when the 12-metre tree, with a diameter of 80 centimetres, fell.

Officials said the incident was caused by rotting tree roots and heavy rainfall.

The Malang City Environmental Service (DLH), the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and volunteers carried out the evacuation and clearing of the downed debris.

Authorities confirmed that the drivers were unharmed, though both cars suffered severe damage to their roofs and hoods due to the impact.

The incident also caused damage to electricity and internet cables.

Heavy rain that has affected the city since Friday also led to flooding in several areas.
