Firefighters in the United States are battling a massive wildfire in Malibu, California, which has prompted evacuations of around 6,000 people and threatens over 2,000 structures, according to local reports.

The fire is burning dangerously close to Pepperdine University, where students sheltering in the campus library early on Tuesday witnessed the sky turning an eerie deep red.

Footage filmed by Alp Toygar at 2:27 a.m. in Malibu captures the ferocity of the blaze, with huge flames consuming hillsides as emergency crews work tirelessly to contain the fire.

Authorities have urged residents to evacuate immediately, as shifting winds and dry conditions make the fire increasingly unpredictable.
