This is the dramatic moment two injured wildlife officers who were attacked by a bull were rescued by a helicopter in Thailand.

Forest rangers Praphan Nakrod and Anan Sapsin were out on patrol when a huge gaur charged at them in the Chaliang Ta That forest bordering the provinces of Phetchabun and Chaiyaphum on December 8. Praphan was gored by the animal's large horns in the stomach, while Anan suffered a broken arm.

Ronnarat Sirimagorn, chief of the Tat Mok National Park, said he requested a helicopter from the provincial disaster mitigation team as the wildlife officers could not be evacuated on foot.

The aircraft arrived at a temporary landing pad near the Tat Mok Wittaya School, where an emergency operation centre was set up. Medics reached the injured men at 2:30 pm and flew them to the helicopter pad of the 1st Cavalry Division, where an ambulance was waiting to rush them to the Phetchabun Hospital.

Authorities said both rangers were in stable condition.

The gaur, also known as the Indian bison, is a large bovine native to the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is the largest species among wild cattle and the Bovidae family, known for their muscular build and distinctive curving horns. As herbivores, they inhabit forests and grasslands, feeding on grasses, fruits, and leaves.

The species is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss and hunting. It is classified under CITES Appendix I and is also a protected animal under Thailand's Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act.
