Quick thinking driver dodge sinkhole on road in China
A quick-thinking driver dodged a sinkhole that suddenly appeared on a road in China.
The passing motorist almost fell into the pit in Guangzhou, Guangdong, on December 1.
Terrifying dashcam footage shows the driver swerving his vehicle upon seeing the huge hole in the middle of the road.
A crashed white van can be seen near the sinkhole.
A local said: 'This section of road has been under construction for ten years, and the road surface collapsed just after it was opened to traffic.'
Sinkholes can form from natural shifts in the foundations. However, human activity, such as drilling, water diversion, and pond creation, can also contribute to the formation of sinkholes.
Additionally, underlying rock made of soft materials like limestone or gypsum increases the risk of sinkholes. Underground construction can also compromise structural integrity, further exacerbating the issue.
