Around 2:46 PM on December 11, a sudden explosion occurred at a high-rise residential building in the Shenzhen Bay Yuefu complex, located in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.

Surveillance footage captured the moment of the explosion, accompanied by a deafening sound. Windows on the affected floor were instantly blown out, and flames and thick smoke quickly spread to multiple floors. Debris from the explosion rained down onto the streets below, causing pedestrians to flee in panic.

Witnesses reported smelling gas prior to the explosion. When the blast occurred, it caused a loud boom and strong vibrations. The balcony windows and internal structures on the affected floor were destroyed, triggering a fire. A woman fell from the balcony during the incident. The fire impacted at least four to five floors of the building, with two floors severely damaged and the exterior facade almost entirely destroyed. Windows on other floors were also damaged to varying degrees.

The Shenzhen Fire Department issued a statement, identifying the source of the fire as a gas explosion near Unit C on the 28th floor. As of 6:00 PM, the fire had been extinguished. The incident resulted in one fatality, with no other injuries reported. The exact cause of the explosion is under further investigation.

The Shenzhen Bay Yuefu Phase II complex, completed in 2017, is a high-end residential development in the Shenzhen Bay area, with property prices around 200,000 yuan per square meter.
