Malaysia's manufacturing sector sales grew by 3 percent year-on-year to 161.3 billion ringgit (36.43 billion U.S. dollars) in October, official data showed Tuesday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the growth was primarily fueled by a robust 11.2 percent increase in the food, beverages and tobacco sub-sector.
The growth was further supported by the increase in electrical and electronics products sub-sector at 3.2 percent, as well as the non-metallic mineral products, basic metal and fabricated metal products sub-sector (4.4 percent).
On a month-on-month basis, the sales value declined by 0.6 percent from 162.3 billion ringgit in September.
Throughout the first 10 months this year, the sales value of the manufacturing sector amounted to 1.57 trillion ringgit, which increased by 4.5 percent as compared to the same period of 2023.
