SOUNDBITE (English): ALI OGUZ DIRIOZ, Associate professor of international relations at Ankara's TOBB University
"The Belt and Road Initiative is a very important initiative to revive this cross-Eurasian land-based communication and trade network.
Since the Belt and Road Initiative, the options to revive the new Silk Road from the historical Silk Road have accelerated. If we directly look at the Türkiye-China cooperation, we'll see especially on the railroads, significant investments are being carried on and they are continued to be developed.
They (China) want to jointly develop the Belt and Road Initiative. This is clearly a message that we should have further cooperation and win-win situations. And the Belt and Road Initiative, they underscore the message that this is not a monopoly of one nation. And this is a consortium for the benefit of all the nations that will be cooperating to develop and revive this new Silk Road.
The Belt and Road Initiative will by developing the connections strengthen both regional interconnectivity and also global interconnectivity. So it's a significant opportunity both for developing countries or the emerging economies as well as the traditional OECD Western economies."
