SOUNDBITE 1 (French): ANGEL YAPOPIE, Attieke maker
"I've been making attieke since I was very young. It's our staple food. I'm very happy that it has been recognized by UNESCO."
SOUNDBITE 2 (French): ROBERT N'CHO, Ivorian citizen
"We Ivorians are very satisfied with the honor because attieke is a heritage of Cote d'Ivoire. I think it's interesting that it's being promoted and recognized. Whether in the sub-region or Africa, attieke is a dish that's enjoyed by many. It needs to be protected."
On December 4, UNESCO announced on its website that the know-how involved in making attieke in Cote d'Ivoire was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2024.
