Landslide crashes onto road in front of motorcycle rider
This is the terrifying moment a landslide crashes onto a road in front of a motorcycle rider in Indonesia.
Dramatic natural disaster footage shows the motorist suddenly halting after spotting the rockslide just a few metres ahead in Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi, on Monday, December 9.
Authorities said it was triggered by a heavy downpour blocking the KM 11 Coffee Garden Route road.
Police said: 'We from the Parimo Police Traffic Unit will immediately communicate with the relevant parties to clean up the landslide material that is blocking the road.'
Torrential rains have battered the region since last week.
In separate incidents, landslides in Karo, Padang Lawas, and Tapanuli Selatan districts killed 11 people, while flash floods in Deli Serdang claimed four lives on November 23.
On November 16, a cliff landslide buried a main road in Tadokalua Village, Tabang District, Mamasa Regency, West Sulawesi. The incident has cut off access for thousands of residents.
Landslides are common in Indonesia, particularly during the rainy season. The risk is further exacerbated by deforestation and illegal mining activities in remote areas.
