United States - December 12, 2024 A chaotic morning on I-94 unfolded Thursday when a box truck crashed into four public safety vehicles responding to a separate rollover incident, forcing a temporary highway closure. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office reported that at 8:36 a.m. on Dec. 12, crews from the Comstock Fire Department and sheriff’s deputies were handling a crash in the eastbound lanes near the 80.5 mile marker, just east of Sprinkle Road. As officials worked the scene, a 24-foot box truck collided with three fire department vehicles and a sheriff’s cruiser. The truck itself then rolled over before coming to a stop. Miraculously, no first responders were injured, and the earlier crash also resulted in no injuries. The box truck driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Ascension Borgess Hospital for treatment. The eastbound lanes of I-94 were closed at Sprinkle Road as wreckers and police worked to clear the wreckage. The highway reopened at 10:50 a.m. Authorities are urging drivers to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles, especially in hazardous weather conditions.
