STORYLINE:

On May 21, 2023, China sent two satellites of "Macao Science 1," a space exploration program, into space.

"Macao Science 1" is the first space science satellite program jointly developed by the Chinese mainland and Macao.

The project is also the first scientific exploration satellite placed in a near-equatorial orbit to monitor the geomagnetic field and the space environment.

"Since the launch of the satellites more than one year ago, they have orbited the Earth more than 8,000 times. They have accumulated a wealth of high-precision geomagnetic field data, which have been utilized in scientific research and practical applications across various countries. The observation accuracy now represents the world's leading standard.
A lot of key aspects of the satellites were developed in collaboration with scientists and engineers from the mainland.
We plan to launch the 'Macao Science 2' satellites in two years. They will join the previous low-latitude and low-inclination 'Macao Science 1' satellites to form a global observation network."
