Malibu, United States - December 10, 2024 A dramatic video from @timhortonphotomalibu shows Chinook helicopters scooping water from Pepperdine University’s Alumni Park and dropping it on the Franklin Fire, which continues to devastate Malibu. The footage, filmed on December 10, highlights the intense aerial firefighting efforts as the fire burns through the area. The fire, first reported on December 9 as a 5-acre blaze on Malibu Canyon Road, quickly spread due to gusty winds. Over 4,000 acres have been scorched, and while the fire’s growth has slowed to just six additional acres in the past day, containment remains at 30%. Despite the ongoing threat, mandatory evacuation orders were lifted and downgraded to warnings on December 13, allowing some residents to return home. Voluntary evacuation warnings are still in effect, but Pepperdine University students are safe. As firefighters continue to battle the blaze in steep, rugged terrain, air support remains crucial in preventing further spread.
