A massive fire tore through 200 homes in Indonesia.

The fire broke out in a densely populated residential area on Jalan Kebon Kosong, RW 05, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, December 10, around 12:25 pm.

Footage shows the homes engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing into the air.

Emergency crews dispatched 32 fire trucks and 128 personnel. The blaze was brought under control by 3 pm and declared out by 5 pm.

Initial investigations suggest a gas cylinder explosion caused the fire.

Around 1,800 affected residents were relocated to three temporary shelters.

Central Jakarta Fire Brigade officer Subadi said a firefighter was rushed to the hospital for shortness of breath.

The officer added: 'Tired, because the area that was burned was quite large, but thank God the condition of the officers was safe.

'There was one who was short of breath then we quickly got a handler and we took him straight to Hermina Hospital, thank God his condition is now safe.'

No fatalities were reported, but 13 people were injured and have received medical treatment.

A thorough investigation is ongoing.
