A massive python was removed from a pickup truck engine by animal rescuers in Thailand.

The 13ft (4m) snake was discovered when a pet dog kept barking at the front of the sedan in Kanchanaburi province on December 8.

Footage shows the reptile being searched and dragged out by the reptile handling volunteers who were called to extract the animal.

The car owner helped pull it out, but it resisted the rescue team members, who appeared to have a tug of war with it.

Songkran Kaewwaiyut said: 'I am a building contractor. The owner of the car is a technician. The dog was angrily barking at the hood, so we opened it and saw the python inside.'

The snake was later successfully pulled from the car. It was unhurt and released to the forest.

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
