Bystanders rush to aid of elderly person tumbling down escalator in China
On December 14, in a shopping mall in Jiangxia District, Wuhan, Hubei Province, an elderly person accompanied by a child was using an upward-moving escalator when the elderly individual suddenly lost balance, causing both to fall.
Surveillance footage shows that after the child fell, they continued to be carried upward by the moving escalator and remained relatively stable. However, the elderly person rolled down from a higher position multiple times, creating a highly dangerous situation. Fortunately, during the incident, a woman passing by noticed what was happening and quickly pressed the emergency stop button on the escalator, halting its operation. She then helped the elderly person up, preventing further injuries.
Both the elderly individual and the child were frightened during the fall. According to witnesses, they were wearing thick clothing, resulting in only minor injuries.
Mall property staff confirmed that the elderly person sustained some abrasions, but neither of them was in life-threatening condition. The elderly person was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment, and mall representatives visited them afterward. The elderly person is now in stable condition.
