A shocking video shows a 22-foot canal boat being engulfed by flames - leaving the owner without a home.

George Pedley, 40, was out for the evening when a neighbour boater called him with the news that his beloved white boat was on fire.

Stored diesel and petrol fuel on the front and gas bottles resulted in a catastrophic explosion - leaving the boat engulfed in flames.

Fire services were called to the incident on the evening of Friday, December 6 to put down the flames at Sandfield Bridge in Frampton Upon Severn.

Mr Pedley attended the blaze promptly - but all he saw was his four-year-old boat called 'Harrison's Dream' under the water.

He had only migrated to Gloucester canal four months ago after living in Tewkesbury Marina.

Mr Pedley stated: "When my friend called I was in complete disbelief - I thought 'it can't be my boat'."

"I am still processing it - I never contemplated losing everything. It is hard to take because a lot of that is irreplaceable."

"All of the memories I had there from friends who have passed away. "

"Everything inside has been destroyed. I would imagine the only things that are salvaged are metal items."

"I never contemplated not having any clothes or a shaver or toothbrush and no money to buy anything."

Mr Pedley believes that the loss equates to a total of £30,000 of uninsured contents.

He is currently living with a friend in London and had to find a job in construction to gather some money as a way to restart his life.

"I am trying to get some emergency housing," he said."

"I am left on my own to manage everything and I am trying to get some money - as I don't have any at the moment."

"I am trying to keep my head strong. I had depression in the past and I am just trying to focus on my every day."

The boat still remains in the canal as investigations are currently on the way.

It will be removed from the water when the investigation is completed.

He said: "I have no idea what happened. I am just going to wait until they give me some answers."

Three fire engines were sent to the scene from Stroud, Gloucester North and Gloucester South - after being called at 8.30pm to reports of a boat on fire.

Crews used two hose reels and two sets of breathing apparatus - having successfully put it out at 10pm.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service said the boat was '100 per cent' damaged by the fire.

Mr Pedley's boat-life started during Covid when he decided to invest some money on the 22-foot boat.

He loved it so much he decided to stay and live there.

Mr Pedley said: "It was peaceful and you could change your surroundings whenever you wanted - I love it. "

"There is something very calming about living on the water."

A GoFundMe page was created to collect donations for all the belongings he lost in the fire.

Mr Pedley is hoping to raise £2,500 and has so far raised £375 from eight donations.
