Shocking video shows the aftermath of a horror double-decker bus crash which left eight people injured - one critically.

Part of the roof was torn off the 4A First Bus after it collided with a bridge on Cook Street in Glasgow city centre last night (14/12).

Images taken from the scene at around 6pm show the front of the bus wedged underneath the bridge and the emergency service response.

Signs mark the bridge as for vehicles under 3.8 metres (12.5ft) and the street is one-way.

Spike Turner, 26, was on the bus when it crashed and said he thought the driver had taken a wrong turn.

The sound engineer from Glasgow said: "It seems like he's taken a wrong turn and literally just drover straight into the bridge."

"The whole front of the bus has collapsed. I was third from the front but the lady in front of me might be concussed."

"The bridge itself wasn't high enough to hit anyone's head but parts of the bus exterior have swung down."

"The man in the front seat is in a really, really bad state. I'm hoping he's alright but he's got a lot of blood and a massive gash on the front of his head."

"Maybe he [the driver] isn't using to coming this way."

"It's shocking."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Emergency services attended and five people were taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth university hospital for treatment."

"One person is described as being in a critical condition. Three others were assessed at the scene and attended at hospital."

ScotRail closed a number of lines but services resumed later in the evening.

A First Bus spokesperson said: "We're aware of numerous injuries, with one person being taken to hospital in an ambulance."

"We have launched an immediate investigation and are also assisting Police Scotland with their inquiries. "

"Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident."
