This is the dramatic moment rescuers saved volunteers trapped at Cherkessky Pass in Russia.

Three volunteers from the Caucasian Reserve staying in a shepherd's hut were rescued due to extreme weather conditions in Sochi.

Authorities dispatched a Ka-32 helicopter operated by the Southern Regional Emergency Rescue Service and the Southern Aviation Rescue Center of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations to conduct an aerial rescue operation.

Local reports said that heavy snow and blizzards set in for several days, creating dangerous avalanche conditions in the Fisht area, leaving individuals stranded in the snowy mountains at an altitude of 1,800 m (5,905 ft), with no way to safely evacuate on foot.

Footage shows rescuers guiding the volunteers to the aircraft during a blizzard. They were then safely airlifted and transported back to the city.

The Russian winter officially begins on December 1 and ends on the last day of February.

Last year, the country experienced temperatures as low as minus 50 degrees Celsius, with blizzards affecting most regions and disrupting flights as harsh winter weather swept across the nation.
