Two pink moons that appeared to illuminate the night sky baffled residents in the Philippines.

Footage shows the heavenly bodies glowing on the horizon as seen from a building in Rizal province on November 15, shortly before 7 pm.

One of them was gleaming brighter than the other but looked the same size.

Local John Carl said they were amazed and at the same time scared as it could mean bad luck.

He said: 'It was a full moon. My friends told me about it, so we went to the balcony to check it out.

'We did not know there could be two moons in the sky. We were also worried because it showed up after the typhoons. It could mean something bad.'

The second heavenly body was believed to be asteroid 2024 PT5, which the American Astronomical Society discovered on August 7.

The study said: 'Earth can regularly capture asteroids from the Near-Earth object (NEO) population and pull them into orbit, making them mini-moons.'
