Two king cobras locked their fangs on each other in a gruesome battle to death in Singapore.

The deadly snakes were intertwined in a pond when locals found them duelling at Windsor Nature Park on December 8.

Footage shows the 4ft (1 m) long reptiles rotating in the water as they wrestled each other on the pool.

They slithered to the banks under bushes, sinking their venomous bites in a bid to take each other down.

One had its teeth on its opponent's neck while the other was ravaging its tail. Soon, blood was seen on the wounded snake with its head bitten.

Onlooker Anng Yang Yang said: 'We tried to be as silent as possible and observe from a safe spot.

'It was amazing to see nature so up close. It was like being in a nature documentary.'

Cobras do engage in duels, particularly during mating season. Male cobras will wrestle by rising, spreading their hoods, and attempting to overpower each other to establish dominance.

However, these encounters are usually non-lethal and involve intimidation rather than actual fighting to the death.
