Rare double-sided sun halo filmed above city buildings
An amazed pedestrian filmed these two extremely rare sun halos gracing the big, yellow circle in the sky above city buildings.
The footage of the phenomenon, complete with two luminous rings flanking the main sun and looking like two tiny rainbows, appeared over Beijing, China, on Tuesday, December 10.
Onlookers marvelled as the dazzling display lit up the afternoon sky, creating a celestial spectacle rarely seen.
A local managed to capture it on video while out walking.
Known as a double-sided sun halo, this phenomenon requires precise weather conditions. It occurs when countless tiny ice crystals are suspended in thin clouds and refract sunlight.
This event included a solar halo and a circumzenithal arc, an optical effect resembling an upside-down rainbow, further adding to its uniqueness.
